After
the the tour arranged last year to celebrate the fiftieth
anniversary of the opening of the Tower, and the trip out in the bus the
previous year, this year it was back to the simple format.

came to the reunion]

This was a simple reunion, but I think a good one. Since
there was not a long period where there were few people in the
function room, it broke up the conversation. This year people
seemed to gel and the conversation went on for a long time.
There were a lot of people there right to the end.
We had 81 people this year, and it was a good crowd. The
bar area had been left with more space, and there were more people
on the tables on the upper level this year. Even the 1963
crowd went down to the far end ( now was that because there were no
large tables nearer to the bar, and they were still the biggest
group, or was it that they needed to be nearer the toilets?)
There were quite a lot of new faces again this year. That
is good. We also had a good spread of people from all of the
years of the school.

We had a fascinating mother and daughter combination.
Karen Orr (now Dawson) has been to the reunion on several occasions
and is part of the 1973 group. This year her mum came too.
Sheila Orr was in the fifth in 1952. We had another 1952
member this year. Don Blood came early, and unfortunately he
left a few minutes before Sheila arrived. Don had driven over
from Stamford to attend.
We also had two people from 1975, so we should soon have photos
of the youngest person at the reunion with the the oldest person
together.
David Baker joined us again. He arrived right at the start
and was one of the last to leave. He seemed to enjoy himself
and says he plans to come next year. A lot of people enjoyed
discussing music and other things with him, particularly Nigel Peet,
who had been trying to meet up with him for a couple of years.
Gary Grimshaw was prepared to come this year, as someone had
asked him to come along, but it was decided that he could not manage
the stairs. If we try a new venue next year, we should find
one that is accessible. Gary is now 88, so getting up the
steep staircase to the function room would not be possible.
One or two people felt they could find some other members of staff
for another year, so please do.
This year Dennis Rooke (1962), who we sometimes forget was
also a teacher (well us older ones do) was at the reunion, which
surprised me, as he said he would be away on holiday. In fact,
it turned out Jill was away on holiday, but Dennis had stayed behind
to deal with a family problem, and was going to be joining Jill in a
few days time.
It was amazing how quickly the time flew by. It hardly
seemed we had been there for more than a little while, and it was
after 7pm. When I left just after 7:30pm for the drive home,
there was just a few stragglers left. Mind you, there were
quite a few in the bar downstairs. They had decided to leave
and had made it as far as the the bottom of the staircase, but they
found it hard to go much further.
Bill Rich summed it up: "I did appreciate being able to sit
and have a natter, especially as so many from 1966 came along.
No names, but finding out to how to detect a lady boy in Thailand
was one of the highlights!!!"
I guess they will be back again next year.
