Gunner's Dilemma
Barry Druker recalled a story which he told to John Child at a reunion back
in 1997, which John has just recalled.
Barry and a number of others were caught drinking in The Romany. I
think this put Gunner in a bit of a dilemma because if this got into the press
it would show that the school was badly disciplined. Anyway Gunner drew up
a statement which he told them to sign. It said something to the effect
that in exchange for the school not notifying the police or their parents they
would never do it again and if they did they would be in for a thrashing and
that they would be reported to the police. Apparently they had to sign
over a postage stamp to make the document legal. Barry read through the
statement and said to Gunner that he would have to check the legality of this
out with his solicitor.
His thrashing was therefore quickly brought forward!
