The School Photograph of 1952

Carol Shaw (now Carol Chamberlain) had this school photo taken in September 1952.  Her sister Sue Mathews sent it to me.  If you were at the school at that time, then please find yourself and friends and send me the references.  You will see from the photo that a number of key staff members were already in place, Buzzer, Gunner, Taffy and Miss Wilkinson, to name just a few.  They look much younger than I remember!  Margaret Tew (now Margaret Ashton), who still has a copy of this photo framed and hanging on the wall, remembers that the day this photo was taken it had to be done twice.  The first time was chaos with a lot of pupils making a racket and not paying attention. Buzzer Howard then stormed to the front and told us in no uncertain terms that it would be done again and that anyone misbehaving would show on the picture and be punished, for the good name of the school was at stake! He always frightened the life out of me so if you study it carefully you will notice many serious faces, a few frowns and not that many smiles.
